3SX Nationwide Tour
July 2-10, 2002 -- NC - WA - CA - NC

I have assembled all of the panoramas I shot during the trip and am very happy with them. Actually succeeded in assembling all of the ones I took pictures for! think that might actually be a first. And I got EIGHT different ones here (a couple others were pretty much duplicates of ones seen here). They vary from 3-image pans to a 9-image assembly! Ironically, the biggest one wasn't the hardest to get just right! Anyway, I talk briefly about each one below. Click on the image to load the big picture - it will load in a separate window all by itself. Image sizes and file sizes are listed, and ALL are a lot smaller than the original panoramas, which are nearly 3MB in some cases and over 8000 pixels wide (so set 10 monitors side by side if your screen is running at 800x600!!). They are shrunk down to about a half-meg per image. Enjoy!! :-)

Columbia River and Ginko Petrified Forest State Park, WA
6 image panorama, 4000x648, 427kb
This was really the first place I actually stopped for the sake of "sight-seeing" After about 2900 miles of however far I'd been at this point, I was ready to actually see something. I shot two different pans here from different viewing spots.

A second view of the Columbia River in Washington state.

Meteor Crater National Park, AZ
5 image panorama, 4000x829, 580kb
Since I couldn't go to the Grand Canyon due to the fact I was driving an oversized commercial truck, I stopped at the Meteor Crater. That's a BIG hole!! Got a few pans here at different widths and different perspectives. This thing is like a mile wide!

Meteor Crater National Park, AZ
9 image panorama! 3000x666, 410kb
This is a special one - actually turned the camera sideways and shot a series of NINE images in portrait mode, then assembled the image vertically and rotated it.

Meteor Crater National Park, AZ
3 image panorama, 3000x853, 405kb
For this one I was going for the really rounded bowl look, so used my wide-angle/fish-eye attachment lens. Actually managed to get the panorama to assemble pretty ok! Really captures to hugeness of it in a "narrow" point of view. :-)

Petrified Forest National Park, AZ
6 image panorama, 4000x612, 485kb
This is a favorite of mine. I loved the surrealistic landscape with the striped rounded roly-poly hills and rock formations. If you look closely, there's a guy walking on the path in the lower middle. Talk about putting the size of this area in perspective!

The Painted Desert, AZ
8 image panorama, 5000x739, 665kb
It was really cool to see all the colors contrasting each other in this panorama of "The Painted Desert". Extra contrast is provided by the storm off in the distance!

The Painted Desert, AZ
3 image panorama, 3000x892, 380kb
Check out the rich colors of the landscape! I love how the poofy clouds almost mimic the rolling landscape.
