The Charlotte Gathering - 4th Annual!!

November 21 - 23, 2003 -- Charlotte, NC

What a weekend!! There were over 40 cars and over 50 people that showed up for this year's Charlotte Gathering! The Poker Run allowed people to cruise through some of the countryside and around Charlotte - also stopped in at 3SX so people could check out the facility and see where we spend our days :-) The total miles driven on the Poker Run were 137.4 and Randy Lear won with the closest guess of 143 miles. Tony Briceno won the Poker run with a pair of Aces and King high, Paul & Dawn Stephensen got second with a pair of Aces and Jack high, while Brandy Howell got third with a pair of Aces and 10 high. Dinner at Jillians turned out to be just shy of a disaster - food was slow, cold, wrong, or didn't show up at all! We did get to park Steve's car on their patio for people to check out. Sunday was a cool time at the Dyno, but something was awry with that dyno - the 2WD cars were coming out right - Mike Sullivan turned over 250 FWHP in his TT Conversion and Shawn O'Connor laid down 413 RWP with is '03 Cobra! But the AWD cars were reading about 1/3 lower than they should have! Cars with previous dyno sheets (John Adams and John McGrath) turned in 100 hp less than the previous 330+/- AWP runs. A STOCK VR-4 only read 150 - LESS than the FWD non-turbos!! So factoring the "fudged reading" in there for the dyno, Steve's is putting out about 520-530 at the wheels - without tuning, too. The dyno showed 364 and it was still pulling at the end of the test. :-) We'll be buying some time on the dyno to tune it better - then I'll cut Steve's fingers off it he messes with the settings! All in all it was a fun and relaxing weekend, despite a blown a turbo, collapsed plug, broken crank pulley, loose timing belt, and a few other minor mishaps, but everyone DROVE home - which is a GOOD thing.

We have made arrangements with Sleep Inn in Concord, NC. They are just off of I-85 on the north side of Charlotte, near the Speedway and Concord Mills mall - Exit 49. There's plenty of goings-on nearby, lots of restaurants from fast food to sit-down, gas, etc. Rates are $59 per night, 2 night stay, single and double rooms available, and it includes a free continental breakfast, and there's a pool too.
