H4 HID Installation
1991-1993 3000GT/Stealth

NOTE: In order to run ANY aftermarket headlight bulbs, whether HID or not, on a 91-93 3000GT or Stealth, you must first install theH4 conversion housings. You do NOT need the H4 Conversion Harness if you are installing the HID kit 3SX carries. You MAY need it if you are installing HID's from another vendor, and you will most likely need it if you are running other non-HID H4 bulbs.

Installing the H4 HID kit on your 3000GT/Stealth is actually very easy. The most difficult part may be getting to the housing to install the bulbs. Please visit our other Install Guide for H4 Conversion Housings for actual housing and/or bulb installation. This guide simply shows you the wiring for the H4 HID bulbs and ballasts.

The HID kits come with 2 ballasts (they're the same, no left/right), 2 H4 HID bulbs with wiring, and 2 little sleeves with a couple little plastic terminals (2 of each style).

The rectangular terminal with 3 plug holes is NOT used on a 3000GT/Stealth unless you have already installed the H4 Adapter Harness on your vehicle.

The oval double-plug terminal is connecting the H4 HID bulb to the ballast and goes onto the connectors at the end of the braided wire pair (red+black wires). Orient the 2 wires in the terminal such that the red wire is toward the top of the ballast (side with the tech specs) and the black one is toward the bottom of the ballast.

For the heavy rubber line coming out of the ballast connect the red and blue wires respectively to the red and blue wires on the bulb wiring. Be sure the push the terminals together far enough together so they click and lock together.

The remaining 3 wire connectors on the bulb connect to the stock headlight terminal plug using the following diagram and description:

Stock Harness H4 HID Bulb Low Beam Voltage High Beam Voltage
Low Beam Red Black Single 12V 0V
Ground Red/Blue Black Double 12V 12V
High Beam Red/White Red 0V 12V

Stock Red+Blue wire __ goes to Double Black on H4 HID Bulb
Stock Red wire / goes to Single Black on H4 HID Bulb
Stock Red+White wire \ goes to Red on H4 HID Bulb

_/ \ is the shape of the stock harness looking at where the bulb/wires plug in

With everything connected your lights should work normally with low beams being the HID element lit and high beams being the halogen element lit. If you get a situation where the high beam is lighting very dim, try reversing the red and black wires in the braided pair as they go into the ballast (the oval terminal plug) - orient red toward the bottom and black toward the top. We have had a couple people indicate that the wires/plugs on either the ballast or bulbs were reversed.
