Clevite RACE Engine Bearings
H-Series and HX-Series
3000GT / Stealth / GTO
DOHC Turbo and Non-Turbo
These H and HX Clevite bearings were developed primarily for use in NASCAR type racing but are suitable for all types of competition engines. These bearings are identified by a letter H in the part number suffix. Part numbering is based on the same core number as the standard passenger car parts for the same application.
H series bearings have a medium level of eccentricity, high crush and rod bearings have a hardened steel back and thin overlay. These bearings also have enlarged chamfers for greater crankshaft fillet clearance and are made without flash plating for better seating.
The HX series bearings have and .001” extra clearance are available for standard size shafts and carry the suffix “HX” (X = extra clearance).
Use H series bearings with crankshafts that have oversize fillets and where engines run in the medium to high RPM range. H series bearings should be used if contact patterns obtained with P series parts are too narrow. Contact patterns should ideally cover 2/3 to 3/4 of the bearing surface. See accompanying contact pattern diagrams.
We also offer these H and HX series as COATED Clevite engine bearings for the DOHC 6G72 3S engine. These are the same Clevite Bearings we have been selling and running for years, but these have had a special coating added to them to help with longevity and cold starts.
The biggest benefit of coated bearings is preventing damage during cold starts and events where oil starvation is evident. Starting your car is almost the worst thing you can do as the oil has had time to drain out of the engine back into the pan. The oil is cold and thicker and takes time to get circulated throughout the engine, including to the crank bearings. The added dry film lubricant coating acts as a barrier between the bearing surface and the crank journal. Other benefits are less friction and longer bearing and crank journal life. The special coating also has moly and other ingrediants that retain oil rather than repell it.
The coating is a patented process whereby the bearing is purified (degreased and degassed), and the coating is bonded to the bearing babbitt layer without removing the babbitt layer. The coating is cured onto the surface under temperatures of around 300 degrees F. Each shell is inspected before and after the coating process to ensure consistency. The coating thickness is about 0.0002" - 0.0003" per shell.
This coating process was developed for and is used in race engines, and applied to street and daily-use cars to help yield more durable engines
KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ORDERING BEFORE ORDERING!!!
There are ** NO RETURNS ** on these special order engine bearings - no exceptions.
NOTE: The Thrust Bearings are NOT available as H or HX, they will be the starndard Thrust bearings for the 6G72 DOHC 3S engine. If you opt for coated bearings, the Thrust won't be coated.
NOTE2: These are SPECIAL ORDER bearings, so expect 1-3 weeks lead time for delivery - on the shorter time if not getting coated and the longer time if getting them coated. But we do source them locally and they are coated locally.
There are ** NO RETURNS ** on these special order engine bearings - no exceptions. Rod bearings are sold as each, you must order 6.
